Katsina bandits demanding cash, others kill four in fresh attack

Some bandits on Sunday killed four persons in Barawa village, Batagarawa Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The residents of the village, which is less than 10 kilometres from Katsina, the state capital, said the bandits arrived at the village on motorcycles around 8.45pm and operated for about two hours.

The villagers said the four victims included an old woman, Liliya Dahiru, and a man named Isiyaku Abdulkadir.

It was learnt that the two other victims were on their way to the neighbouring community, Bakiyawa, when they ran into the bandits who killed them.

 A middle-aged man, Abdulmainu Yakubu, who escaped narrowly, said, “Three of the gunmen pointed guns at me and the injury on my face is from their riffles.”

Another resident, who spoke on condition anonymity, said, “Our people were visited with violence yesterday (Sunday) night in Barawa community, where bandits numbering about 100 wreaked havoc from 9pm to 10.30pm. They killed and looted without any hindrance and there was no help from security operative s.

“We have dead bodies, three males and one female. The bandits went from house-to-house rustling cows and other domestic animals. They also took money and food items. “

He said a resident, Bello Musa, was forced to part with N410,000, his motorcycle and domestic animals to avoid being killed.

It was learnt that the four victims were buried on Monday morning while security operatives had visited the village.

The spokesman for the Katsina State Police Command, SP Gambo Isah, said, “Yes the incident happened.”
