The Lagos State Task Force on the Environment and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit has arrested 21 suspected miscreants and cultists and impounded 78 commercial motorcycles for engaging in illegal activities.
The suspects were arrested at their hideouts in the Ogudu and Ajah areas of the state during an operation carried out by the agency.
It was gathered that during the raid, the suspects and others at large launched an attack on officials of the agency with broken bottles, stones and axes.
The Chairman of the agency, Olayinka Egbeyemi, who led the enforcement team, stated that the operatives faced the suspects and arrested 21 of them, while others escaped.
According to Egbeyemi, residents of the areas complained about attacks on innocent members of the public by the miscreants, especially in the early hours of the day and at night.
Egbeyemi stated that the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, had directed that the suspects should be prosecuted.
He added that the motorcycles were impounded in the Onipanu, Adekunle and Igbo-Efon areas of the state for violating the ban on motorcycle operations as part of efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19.
