A magnitude 7 earthquake has hit off the coast of New Caledonia.
At least four earthquakes have been recorded near New Caledonia since shortly before 7pm NZT.
The United States Geological Survey reported the magnitude 7 tremor about 8pm New Zealand time.
The earthquake’s epicentre was 279 kilometres east-southeast of the island nation and around 10km deep.
No tsunami warning has been issued.
