Former governor of Oyo state, and Chairman All Progressives Congress (APC) Elders Advisory Council, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, Monday, alerted that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) wanted to destabilise APC in Oyo state.
Otunba Alao-Akala raised the alarm in Ibadan while speaking at the Oyo state APC leaders and elders meeting on the forthcoming party congress scheduled 3rd week of July, at Lafia hotel, Apata, Ibadan.
The former governor said to guard against the purported plans by the PDP, there was the need for APC members and leaders to ensure a crisis-free party congresses .
According to Otunba Alao-Akala, the time has come for all relevant stakeholders in the APC in Oyo state to guard against infiltration from the opposition.
“The PDP is seriously rattled by our deft political moves. They plan to infiltrate our camp, they want to destabilise us.They plan to use every available opportunity to turn the table against us and we must not allow them”, he said
Otunba Alao-Akala added, “I can tell you categorically that we have become a major threat to the PDP in Oyo state. There is serious confusion amongst them. Our unity has become headache to them, they never expected us to come together and form a formidable force that we all see today.
“Take for example, the local government meeting of Ibadan north local government, it caught them unawares. The turnout was super impressive. Go to Atisbo in Oke Ogun area of the state, it is the same success story.
“The report of our registration exercise which is still ongoing is another success story. With all these and many more successes too numerous to mention, it behoves on us to be mindful of our actions at every given time”.
Emphasizing that the party cannot afford to jeopardize its fragile opportunity at hand, the former governor said, “we should eschew violence and discord in the forthcoming congress, we should allow a level playing ground in choosing who will steer the ship of the party as executives.
“We will not allow imposition, we will not allow thuggery and brigandage, we will not allow any form of violence. We will lead by example. We should not bungle this opportunity.”
Speaking further, Otunba Alao-Akala called on women in the party to come out and vie for both party positions and elective positions as the party in the state will give priority to the female agenda.
