Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State was stirred up at the weekend as the All Progressives Congress (APC) swept all the 17 council chairmanship slots in the state.x
The result could not have been otherwise because only the APC fielded chairmanship candidates in the election.
While announcing the election result on Saturday evening in Damaturu, the Executive Secretary of Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (YBSIEC), Dr. Mamman Mohammed, disclosed: “Out of the six political parties that contested the election, only the APC fielded chairmanship candidates, while five other parties fielded only councillorship candidates.”
He said the fielding of candidates was in line with the electoral laws.x
According to him, the only challenge the commission had was to convince the five opposition parties to field candidates for chairmanship positions.
Governor Buni was excited over the outcome of the elections because it was hitch-free.
MEANWHILE, the state government has ordered the shutdown of boarding schools over the trending kidnap of pupils in the North.
The various school authorities asked students, save those in Senior Secondary 3, to vacate their hostels until further directive from their principals.
The Guardian learnt yesterday that Government Girls College, Damaturu, students were moving out of the school premises.
Before shutdown order, the College was hosting Government Girls College, Buni Gari, which was relocated to Damaturu because of terrorism in the state.
Last week, security operatives in Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) were stationed at the entrance of the school.
