Suspected herdsmen attack Benue Community, Kill 11 residents

Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen have attacked Tse Amgbem community near Aondoana in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State, killing 11 residents.

DAILY POST learnt that the incident occurred on Monday morning when the assailants invaded the community.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO DSP Anene Sewuese Catherine was unable to take her calls and could not respond to text messages forwarded to her as at press time.

However, an eye witness told DAILY POST correspondent that 11 persons were slaughtered while others sustained different degrees of injuries.

He noted that the community has been deserted for the fear of another attacks.

Also, the Gwer West Local Government Chairman, Mrs Grace Igbabon confirmed the incident to DAILY POST.

She said the death toll as at Monday evening, has risen to 13.

According to her, houses and other property were destroyed during the attack. She promised to issue a statement shortly.

DAILY POST reports that the state has in recent time witnessed several attacks by suspected herdsmen as over 600,000 citizens have been sacked from their ancestral homes.
