The Kaduna State Police Command says it has commenced investigation into the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the corpse of a six-year-old girl in a mosque in Kurmin-Mashi, Kaduna North Local Government Area of the state.
It was gathered that fear had gripped residents of the area following the discovery of the girl’s corpse.
The victim, identified as Khadijah Ya’u, was suspected to have been raped to death.
Her body was found in a mosque located at the New Road, Kurmi-Mashi, by the Nnamdi Azikiwe bypass on Friday.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, said operatives had commenced investigation into the incident.
Jalige said no stone would be left unturned in ensuring that the perpetrators were apprehended and brought to justice.
He stated, “Investigation into the matter has commenced in earnest. No arrest has been made. Police detectives attached to the Kurmi-Mashi Division have commenced investigation to unravel the mystery.
“Operatives from the division received a call from a resident of the community that a dead body was seen lying in the mosque. You know since the lockdown, no mosque has been opened for worship, except for Friday prayers. The residents discovered the dead body around 3pm close to prayer time.”
