Super Eagles midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi, says rapists are “mentally and spiritually sick” and urges parents to properly educate their male children over the dastardly act.
There’s been a rise in rape cases in Nigeria, with the rape and murder of Vera Omozuwa, a student of Microbiology at the University of Benin, the most high-profile case in recent times.
Barakat Bello was also raped and murdered in Ibadan on June 1.
While speaking on an Instagram Live session, the Denizlispor midfielder said, “I feel rapists have mental and spiritual problems. I don’t understand how people derive satisfaction from raping another person.
“I get sad any time I hear about such issues. People should also stop attributing rape to the way ladies dress.”
The 27-year-old urged parents to educate their male children on the issue.
“I think it has to do with upbringing. Growing up most parents shy away from teaching their male children sex education and because of the lack of it, some kids learn some vices on the way.
“I believe boys should be trained and protected by parents the way they do to their female children. Every child needs to be educated and oriented about rape. If everyone is properly educated about rape from a tender age, things will be better.”
