‘Nigeria doesn’t deserve royal visit,’ UK journalists slam Harry & Meghan for visiting Nigeria

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, have come under fire from British journalist and presenter Kevin O'Sullivan for travelling to Nigeria.

This comes after Christopher Wilson, another British journalist, faced criticism for drawing parallels between Nigerians and Nazis in light of the royal couple's visit.

To commemorate Harry's competition for injured troops in Nigeria, the Invictus Games, the pair travelled to Nigeria.

However, several British journalists and royal fans have criticised their visit.
TalkTV presenter O'Sullivan claimed that no one, including the royal family, should support Nigeria.

"The royal family is not a transient family. The nations that the royals visit are meticulously picked, and these trips are organised years in advance.

"Our royal family would never step foot in Nigeria, a nation where hundreds of children are constantly abducted by radical Islamic organisations, where women's rights are essentially nonexistent, and where female genital mutilation is a common occurrence.
"There is no one who should support this country, especially not our royal family, and these two are acting naively." The journalist claimed, "They're painting this country in a positive light when it doesn't deserve it."

In the meantime, Nigeria has received four visits from King Charles III of England: in 1990, 1999, 2006, and 2018.

Michael Cole, a royal correspondent and specialist, joined O'Sullivan in saying Nigeria a risky place to visit.

"You are entirely correct in what you say, and I have been on more royal excursions than I can count. Nigeria is a hazardous place; you shouldn't go there, according to the US State Department, the Foreign Office, and both. It is in competition with Johannesburg, South Africa, to be the continent's murder capital.

"There is widespread, industrial-scale identity theft, internet fraud, wholesale internet fraud, elder scamming, and identity theft going on there, and none of it gets prosecuted," Cole stated.

Cole, a former journalist for the BBC, added that he found Prince Harry's decision to travel to Nigeria puzzling since it goes against logic and common sense.
