Bayelsa is attempting to resolve the power issues.
Progress is being made to return power to the state, according to Mrs. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, the Bayelsa Commissioner for Information, Orientation, and Strategy.
Following the destruction of the 132 KVA double circuit transmission towers that supplied the state with electricity, Bayelsa was plunged into darkness on 29 July.
In order to restore power to Bayelsa, the commissioner stated that contractors were working around the clock to repair the damaged transmission towers at the Okogbe axis of the East-West route.
During an on-site evaluation of the work at Okogbe along the East-West Road in Rivers on Friday, Koku-Obiyai talked to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
She encouraged them to be patient as the government understood the suffering it had caused the state's citizens and expressed hope that power would be restored shortly.
She clarified that talks were being held between the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and the governments of Rivers and Bayelsa in order to curb vandalism and prevent a recurrence.
Koku-Obiyai praised the TCN and contractors for managing the task and for their dedication to making sure the state's power was restored as soon as possible.
On September 26, TCN management promised that it would take an extra six weeks to finish fixing the gearbox line that had been vandalised.
Additionally, Mr. Olive Kemenanabo, General Manager of the Bayelsa Electricity Company Limited, asked contractors to finish the work by the six-week deadline set by the state government.
According to Musa Mustapha, one of the contractors, two of the three towers that were initially scheduled for installation have been finished.
He said that he hoped the last one would be finished in the allotted time.
With petrol prices in the state currently at N1,300 per litre, the extended power outage in Bayelsa has crippled economic activity among micro, small, and medium business owners.
