BREAKING: Reps to sacrifice 50 percent of monthly salaries to address hunger

On Thursday, July 18, members of the House of Representatives decided to give up half of their monthly pay in order to address the nation's current economic problems.

According to the speaker, each lawmaker makes roughly N600,000 a month.

In an attempt to solve the issue of hunger in the nation, the Deputy Speaker suggested amending a motion that had been made in support of young Nigerians organising a protest due to the country's hardships. The change suggested that members give up half of their salary.

However, the majority of MPs voted in favour of the resolution when Speaker Hon. Abbas Tajudeen took it to a voice vote.
When putting forth the amendment, Kalu reminded the members that the House had made a similar choice during the COVID-19 pandemic, and that it had shown to be highly effective for the nation.
In the same way that some members encouraged the Executive to make sacrifices in line with what the Lawmakers have done, the Speaker praised the members for their willingness to forgo a portion of their wages in order to combat hunger in the nation.
