Delta police urge women to report abusive husbands

Married women in particular have been asked by the Delta State Police Command to report abuse at the closest police station.

The guidance was provided by the command's spokeswoman, SP Bright Edafe, in a post on X.com on Wednesday.

"You have family, friends, and more than six police stations in Asaba. You are married to a man in Asaba who beats you every day," wrote Edafe. Instead of reporting him, you chose to come on X and call for the police to intervene.

"The police told me to go to the closest police station and report; your friends come and say, 'This is Nigeria.'" What connection does Nigeria have to your failure to appear at the police station?

Edafe highlighted that victims should be proactive.
He declared, "Women need to grab the bull by the horns."

"Report an abusive spouse; end an abusive union. "Marriage is not mandatory and should not be forced," the author said.
The Delta State Government said in March that more than 22 males had been charged with assaulting women throughout the state.
