FRSC boss probes Kogi crash, vows to prosecute drivers
The Federal Road Safety Corps' Corps Marshal, Dauda Biu, has instructed the Corps' Kogi State Sector Commander to launch a thorough investigation that will result in the prosecution of drivers accountable for accidents in the state.
Because of the recent cooperation between the corps, the Nigeria Bar Association, and the state judiciary, the drivers will be prosecuted.
This was said in a statement released on Monday and signed by FRSC spokesperson Jonas Agwu.
The statement states that two Dangote trucks, one Sharon bus and one motorbike were among the four vehicles involved in the Sunday collision.
When the Dangote truck's brake system malfunctioned at an unsafe speed, it collided with three stationary cars, one of which was a bus carrying 12 passengers.
The impact of the crash resulted in a fire that killed the 12 passengers in the bus and the motorbike rider.
"Four male adults, three female adults, three male children, and one female child made up the total number of persons engaged in the crash, which was fifteen.
Sadly, 13 people—six adult males, three male children, three adult females, and one female child—were killed, and the other two victims were safely rescued by FRSC agents without suffering any injuries.
The spokesperson clarified, "The 13 victims whose lives were claimed by the crash were burned beyond recognition and their corpses deposited at Specialist Hospital, Lokoja."
In response, Biu stated that the drivers involved in the collision will not escape punishment.
"Those found guilty will bear the consequences of their actions, and they will be prosecuted in accordance with the provisions of the National Road Traffic Regulations 2012," stated Agwu/
