Guardiola divorces wife of 30 years

After thirty years together, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola and his wife, Cristina Serra, have made the decision to divorce.

El Periodico reported on Monday that the split is peaceful, steady, and courteous.

The couple, who got married close to Barcelona in 2014 after meeting in 1994, had apparently drifted apart, especially after Guardiola spent the previous five years managing in other nations.

Valentina, 17, Marius, 22, and Maria, 24, are the couple's three children. Guardiola is still in Manchester, while Serra, a Brazilian journalist, has been residing in Barcelona with their youngest daughter, Valentina. Serra and Guardiola celebrated Christmas with their kids.

Only close friends and relatives were first informed of the divorce decision, which was taken in December. The couple's close friends and family have been urged to keep the information confidential.

In order to pursue a career in fashion with her family's business, Serra Claret, Serra departed Manchester in 2019.

Guardiola signed a new two-year contract with the Premier League winners in November, extending his stay through 2027, despite rumours that he might depart the team at the end of his current one.

Guardiola hopes that when City plays Brentford this week, all of his attention will be on the pitch. Right now, they are ranked sixth in the Premier League standings.
