Hughton Sacked After Black Stars’ Disgraceful AFCON Exit
Chris Hughton was fired as head coach of the senior national team by the Ghana Football Association late on Tuesday, "with immediate effect."
"The Black Stars technical team has been dissolved by the Executive Council as well," the FA said in a statement.
"The Black Stars' future course will be laid out in the coming days by the Ghana Football Association."
Hughton was fired after the Black Stars' appalling performance, which led to their eventual elimination from the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
With seconds remaining on Tuesday, Cameroon scored twice to upset Gambia 3-2, book their spot in the Africa Cup of Nations' last-16, and remove Ghana from the competition.
The ex-manager of Brighton & Hove Albion and Newcastle United was tailed off following a November 2026 World Cup qualifying loss to the Comoros.
The pressure on the 65-year-old in his first Cup of Nations match increased after they lost their opening group game in the Ivory Coast against lower-ranked Cape Verde.
The Black Stars' prospects of making progress were tempered by a draw with Mozambique, but their neighbours in Nigeria were devastated by a draw with record seven-time champions Egypt after leading twice.
