JUST IN: 10 killed, seven injured as building collapses in Ibadan
In Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, a building collapsed Thursday morning, killing ten people and injuring seven more.
According to a statement from the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, the event occurred at 2 a.m. in the state's Ona Ara Local Government Area in Ibadan's Jegeda Oluloyo neighbourhood.
Seven people were retrieved alive out of the wreckage, while ten people were recovered, according to the statement. Rescue operations are reportedly still going on as of the time this news was filed.
According to the statement, "At approximately two in the morning, the Oyo State Fire Services Agency received a distressed call at the Jegede Olunloyo area in Ibadan. Ten people were recovered from the wreckage of the building, and seven people were rescued alive." The rescue effort is still ongoing.
"We received a distress call from the people in the neighbourhood at 2 am," Idealgist said when he spoke with Yemi Akinyinka, the general manager of the state fire services.
Ten people perished outright when we arrived. Our soldiers recovered four people, and three had already been recovered when we arrived. They continue to work.
