La Liga: Alonso faults referee over Real Madrid’s 2-0 defeat to Celta
Real Madrid's manager, Xabi Alonso, has expressed strong disapproval of the officiating following his team's loss to Celta Vigo, stating that a number of questionable refereeing calls "drove the team crazy" and significantly impacted the outcome.
Fabrizio Romano reported on Monday that Alonso remarked, "I did not appreciate the referee's decisions at all. They were inadequate. The decisions drove us crazy.
‘’The red card issued to Carreras was something he was evidently seeking. The referee allowed Celta to waste time, never even cautioned them about it, and consistently halted play at every opportunity."
When questioned about speculation regarding his potential dismissal, the Real Madrid manager responded: "I am not contemplating that. My focus is on the match against Man City. I am solely concentrating on Wednesday's game. We are all united, all together."
Real Madrid suffered a significant 2–0 defeat at home to Celta Vigo on Sunday in La Liga, concluding the match with nine players after red cards were shown to Fran García and Álvaro Carreras.
This loss places Real Madrid four points behind La Liga leaders, Barcelona.
