Protesters demand release of FIJ journalist, Daniel Ojukwu

On Thursday, a group of journalists and civil society organisations stormed the Force Headquarters in Abuja, demanding the release of Daniel Ojukwu, a journalist with the Foundation for Investigative Journalism who is now jailed.

Among the demonstrators are Deji Adeyanju, a lawyer; Omoyele Sowore, a pro-democracy activist and the African Action Congress' presidential candidate for the general elections of 2023; and other others.

Protesters held banners that said "Free Daniel Ojukwu," "No to a police state," "Journalism is not a crime," and "Stop the impunity," as shown in a now-viral video posted on X.com on Thursday.

The Inspector-General of Police's Intelligence Response Team, led by Olukayode Egbetokun, sent Ojukwu to the National Cybercrime Centre in Abuja on Sunday.
Colleagues, relatives, and friends were unaware of Ojukwu's location when he vanished on Wednesday, May 1, with his phone lines turned off.
Ojukwu's location was unknown despite the FIJ's early attempts to declare him missing at local police stations in the vicinity of where he was last seen.

Soyombo denounced the incident and said, "We keep doing everything we can do behind the scenes," calling the kidnapping "annoying."
