Super Falcons captain, Ajibade learns reintroduced national anthem
Rasheedat Ajibade, captain of the Super Falcons women's national football team, is leading by example by learning Nigeria's recently reinstated national anthem, "Nigeria, We Hail Thee."
Nigerians' reactions to President Bola Tinubu's signing of the bill on Wednesday to reinstate the national anthem from the colonial era in place of "Arise, O Compatriots" were not uniform.
Ajibade revealed that she is already learning the national anthem in a video that she posted on her TikTok account late on Wednesday. She also urged others to do the same.
Ajibade attempted to recite some of the lyrics while listening to the anthem in the video.
"I don start to dey learn my own; I no fit argue abeg, as this one na him be naija problem now," she captioned the photo.
#adamstee35, a TikTok user, commented on her video, saying, "No worries. The opposition scored five goals before the Super Falcons could sing this one finish😂🥲.
#chibuikeuzoh126, another user, commented, "I envision a Nigerian match versus England." Even the players from Nigeria are unaware that the anthem is playing.
The reintroduced national anthem is now being recited in some Nigerian schools during morning assemblies.
