UCH doctors begin a three-day strike due to an alleged assault,

A three-day strike by resident doctors at University College the in Ibadan, Oyo State, under the auspices of the Association of Resident Doctors was initiated on Thursday due to allegations of violence on one of their members by the patient's relatives.

The physicians were demanding a public apology from the persons who attacked and injured him on Sunday, according to ARD President John Oladapo, who was speaking to reporters in the state capital of Ibadan.

"On Sunday, a patient's relation intentionally, premeditatedly, plannedly attacked and harmed one of our members," Oladapo stated.

The two males harassed the doctor in the consultation room as he was treating a known sickle cell patient at the emergency department who was experiencing a severe crisis.
In this attack, the patient's mother who attempted to step in was also severely assaulted. The men pursued and physically assaulted the doctor as he tried to flee.

"Our member suffered injuries and lost his self-esteem and mental health before the hospital security guards came to his aid and saved him."

As a result, in order to prevent similar incidents in the future, the president urged the UCH management to enhance its security architecture.
