With a remarkable ten gold medals, Team Nigeria wins the African Senior Wrestling Championship.

With a total of 10 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze, Team Nigeria's delegation to the 2025 African Senior Wrestling Championships in Casablanca, Morocco, solidified its place as one of the top wrestling nations and concluded the competition in a commanding and stylish manner.

Mercy Genesis, a multiple African champion, picked up where her teammates left off on the first day, defeating Algerian Cheima Chebila 11-0 to win gold for Nigeria in the 50kg division.

When Adijat IDRIS defeated another Algerian, Achouak Tekouk, in the 55kg to add to the gold sweep in the women's freestyle, the day improved for team Nigeria.

Similarly, Jumoke Adekoye won another gold medal for Nigeria in the 59kg weightlifting competition by defeating her North African opponent Rahma Hosafy Bediwy of Egypt.

In front of a jubilant crowd led by Team Nigeria, Ebipatei Mughenbofa won another gold. defeated South African Cara Plessis 8–2 in the 65kg division.

After Mercy Adekuoroye was ruled out of the championship owing to sickness, Ebi Biogos upset the gold sweep by defeating Rosie K. Tabora of Congo Dr 12-5 in the 72kg, making it nine gold out of ten events Nigeria competed for in the women's freestyle.

Stephen Izolo, meantime, defied all odds to defeat Farouk Jelassi of Tunisia 5-1 in the 65kg men's freestyle, earning Nigeria's first gold in the men's event and becoming the country's first male winner of the African championship in four years.
Ebierelayefa Andrew (74kg) defeated Jesse Burger Christiaan of South Africa 11-0 to win another bronze for Team Nigeria, while Tope Adebayo (70kg) defeated Otmane Bahja of Morocco 6-1 to win bronze.
