AFCON goal against Cameroon gave me goose bumps – Lookman
Ademola Lookman, a forward for the Super Eagles, said he got goosebumps after scoring his second goal against Cameroon. The Atalanta player is still in awe of his first Africa Cup of Nations experience in Ivory Coast.
At the continental championship, the 26-year-old netted three goals, two of which came against Cameroon in the round of 16, guaranteeing Nigeria's spot in the quarterfinals versus Angola.
Goalie Fabrice Ondoa, who was selected ahead of Andre Onana of Manchester United, stopped Lookman's shot in the 36th minute of the match after he was passed through by Victor Osimhen.
The former Leicester forward wrapped up the win in stoppage time with a neat goal off of a cross from Calvin Bassey.
Lookman claimed he will never forget his second goal against the Indomitable Lions when thinking back on his first-ever AFCON.
"I think the second goal against Cameroon gave me goosebumps," he remarked in a Calister Enejele interview.
"I think it was crazy, what with the celebration and everything after." That was most likely the top point, and it was good that my parents could watch the game.
The 26-year-old recalled the Eagles' most difficult match in Ivory Coast, stating that their first match against Equatorial Guinea was the hardest.
Equatorial Guinea, probably, given the heat and humidity were difficult for us to play in at 2:00 p.m. Most likely, you must mention that game," Lookman continued.
Lookman declared himself content with his position and his input to the group.
As an attacking player, you naturally want to contribute to the club in that way, so I was extremely thrilled," he continued.
"So, yes, I was really happy. That made me glad to do. However, everyone pitched in and the team was fantastic.
Lookman has been playing well for Atalanta, and when Nigeria plays South Africa and Benin Republic in the upcoming round of World Cup qualifying in June, he will be hoping to keep up his strong play.
