Anambra CP decorates 10 newly promoted officers

Ten recently promoted command officers have been presented with their new ranks by Anambra State Police Commissioner CP Aderemi Adeoye.

Adeoye reminded the officers that promotions come with greater responsibilities, just as a new posting comes with new tasks and new competency tests, while highlighting the fact that the police profession is a national call to duty during his speech at the event in Awka on Tuesday.

He recalled that during his 35 years in the police force, he had been assigned to serve in various capacities across the nation, including as a Sector Commander in Maiduguri, the JTF, and Anambra State.
The commissioner tasked the recently promoted officers with living up to expectations, but he also said he took all the postings that came his way by luck and made the most of the chances to demonstrate his abilities.

Recalling that he was sent from national headquarters to the South-East to coordinate the Police Mobile Force in the five south-eastern states, and that he was then sent down to Anambra State as a Deputy Commissioner of Police to help sanitise the state of insecurity at the time, he advised police officers not to lobby for posting.

He stated, "I was assigned to coordinate the Police Mobile Force in the five southeast states from National Headquarters Abuja; from where I was later posted down to Anambra state as a Deputy Commissioner of Police to help sanitise the state of insecurity then, shortly after the assassination of Dr Chike Akunyili, the husband of the late former NAFDAC boss.
"I worked tirelessly with other officers under my command to see that the state's security narrative changed permanently after I was posted."Gunmen threatened to cancel the 2021 governorship election in Ihiala Local Government Area, where they maintained their headquarters while actively terrorising the state. They even declared certain areas off-limits during that time.

"To ensure that the 2021 gubernatorial election was held in the Ihiala Local Government Area of the State, this command battled the unknown gunmen tooth and nail."
During my year here, we managed to win an election that many had predicted would not come to pass, thanks to divine intervention.

That particular election resulted in the current Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo. At first, there was an election in all parts of Anambra State, but no election in Ihiala Local Government Area, because the unknown gunmen had their headquarters there.
"And as soon as the elections in other parts of the state were concluded, we mobilised the entire force to Ihiala, where we engaged them in a shootout in a bush from dawn until dusk to prevent them from travelling to the town to sabotage the elections. God enabled us to succeed while I was in the helicopter overseeing the operation.

Anambra is safe and tranquil today thanks to the hard work of a few police officers. I am here to declare and guarantee that the people of Anambra State will never again be exposed to such senseless acts of violence committed by miscreants. We will defeat them in battle if they raise their heads to repeat the action.

He commended the recently elevated officers and reminded them of the need to continue to work harder, and also charged them to always be professional and exemplary in their conduct.
He urged them to justify the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, approving their promotion, and to view it as an improved chance to perform better in their sacrifices for the country and the wider human race.

In addition to David Iloyanomon, a former DCP Administration employee who was elevated to the rank of Police Commissioner and is currently assigned to Taraba State, four other recently promoted Anambra State Police Command officers were honoured during the ceremony. These officers were promoted from Chief Superintendent of Police to Assistant Commissioner of Police.

Along with the promotion of one officer from Assistant Superintendent of Police to Deputy Superintendent of Police, four other officers were promoted to Chief Superintendent of Police.
