BREAKING : DSS detains Abuja-based leader of the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest

Michael Lenin, a leader of the ongoing Endbadgovernance rallies in the Federal Capital Territory, has been taken into custody by agents of the Department of State Services.

On Monday at around two in the morning, Lenin was taken from his home in the FCT's Apo neighbourhood by the DSS.

The Director of Mobilisation for the Take It Back Movement, Damilare Adenola, told our correspondent that the DSS had invaded Lenin's home.

In addition, he claimed that the DSS had beaten him while he was being held.

"Lenin has been arrested by the DSS," Adenola declared. At about two in the morning, he was taken during a raid on his home.

He was detained and subjected to torture in front of his relatives. We are requesting his unconditional and prompt release.

Peter Afunanya, the spokesperson for the DSS, could not be reached as of the time of filing this report.
He has yet to respond to a message sent to him.
Lenin, the National Coordinator of the Youth Rights Campaign, was among the organisers who expressed dissatisfaction with President Bola Tinubu's Sunday broadcast during a press briefing.
He claimed at the briefing that the President's broadcast showed how far from the country's reality.

"After more than three weeks since Nigerians began organising to take to the streets, and after scores of protestors were killed and journalists were attacked during the first three days of the protests, we wish to express our sadness and deep disappointment at the latest broadcast by President Tinubu, which is his first address to the nation on the #EndBadGovernance protests," he said.

Numerous people had asked that the President simply address the country when the protest was being mobilised and when it started to escalate, but most of us did not know that the President would only justify state violence on protesters and journalists while dismissing the demands of the protesters whenever he decides to speak.
"This further demonstrates how disconnected President Tinubu is from the general public, as does the botched attempt to appropriate the radical and progressive language of the protests."

Lenin, however, urged the populace to turn out in force and declared that the demonstration will continue in a big way on Monday.

"Therefore, we urge Nigerians to turn out in force on Monday to carry on these protests until our demands are fulfilled," he declared. Propaganda combined with violence has shown to be ineffective.

"Propaganda cannot sway or fool us; the violence and repressions are just attempts to silence and control us."
