CDS directs theatre commander to aid flood victims in Maiduguri

General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), has instructed Theatre Commander Operation Hadin Kai to provide Borno State flood victims with all essential support.

The directive was released by the CDS on Wednesday through Brig-Gen. Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information.

General Musa conveyed his sorrow at the deaths, property damage, and hundreds of residents' forced relocation brought on by the Alo Dam's flood.

"I convey our heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost loved ones, as well as to the government and people of Borno State at this difficult time," he said on behalf of the whole Armed Forces of Nigeria.

"The Nigerian Armed Forces express their sympathy with the people of Borno State and will ensure all affected communities are evacuated to safety and, in addition, will give support to the ongoing rescue and rehabilitation efforts.
"We prayed for the deceased's souls to rest in peace and wished for a quick recovery for the injured."

The CDS guaranteed that the impacted towns will get prompt aid and assistance from the military in coordination with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other pertinent agencies.

"Committed to the efforts of both the Federal and Borno state governments to alleviate the suffering of those impacted by this tragic event," he declared, the military's continued position.
