Commercial tricyclist slumps, dies in Delta
The name of the commercial tricycle operator, also referred to as the "Keke" rider, remains unknown. He passed away on Thursday in Effurun, Delta State's Uvwie Local Government Area.
The incident reportedly happened close to Okorodudu Junction, which is close to the well-known Old Airport Junction in Uvwie.
Witnesses reported that shortly after hastily parking his bike and making his way to a nearby roadside food seller, the tricylist fell.
Editors: "The man parked his Keke and wanted to eat before he fell and stopped all forms of movements," as one witness, Martins Emuobonuvie, reported to the press.
Emuobonuvie continued, saying, "The policemen who raced to the scene said he was dead, so they couldn't rush him to the hospital."
Another witness, a motorist, Emeka Ebube, expressed concern that policemen from the nearby Enerhen Divisional Police Station could not rush the deceased to the hospital.
According to Ebube, "He (the deceased Keke operator) could have survived if he had received medical attention."
Nevertheless, rumours circulated that a group of police officers subsequently removed the late commercial tricycle operator's body from the scene "after calling relations of the deceased."
As of the time this story was filed, SP Bright Edafe, the state police public relations officer, could not be reached for comment on the incident.
