Eagles believed they’ve won after scoring – Rohr
Genort Rohr, the head coach of the Benin Republic national football team and a former coach of the Super Eagles, claimed that the Cheetahs were more disciplined than the Eagles during their historic 2-1 victory over Nigeria on Monday in a 2026 World Cup qualifier played in their adopted city of Abidjan.
With two quick goals from Jodel Dossou and Steve Mounie, the Cheetahs inflicted a blow to Nigeria's hopes of salvaging their qualifying campaign at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny. Raphael Onyedika had given Nigeria the lead.
In the post-game interview, Rohr added insult to injury for the Eagles by saying his team was more organised than his last one.
"These athletes are constantly united. They have a lot of faith and are capable of scoring goals.
"I think we had the right organisation; after they scored the first goal, they might have thought the game was over, but my team's response and desire were so strong that they were able to tie the score," Rohr remarked.
Despite the fact that Super Eagles head coach Finidi George, who took over in April, has lost both of his games in command of the team, he is certain that the Eagles will turn things around.
In March 2025, the Eagles will play two more games in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers when they go to Rwanda on March 17 and play host to Zimbabwe on March 25.
