EPL: Alex Iwobi breaks Mikel Obi’s record

In the English Premier League, Alex Iwobi of Fulham has eclipsed John Mikel Obi's record for the most minutes played by a Nigerian player.

Iwobi played the full 90 minutes in Fulham's most recent 1-0 home loss to Newcastle United, increasing his remarkable total of Premier League minutes to 16,289. The previous record of 16,218 minutes, set by former Chelsea star John Mikel Obi, has been surpassed by this amazing accomplishment.

Iwobi's Premier League career started on October 31, 2015, when he signed for Arsenal. The versatile midfielder left the Gunners in 2019 after a fairly successful run, and he moved to Everton in 2019 before joining Fulham last summer.

Iwobi has accrued significant playing time and has made frequent appearances for his individual teams. The 27-year-old has made 24 league appearances for Fulham this season alone, tallying five goals. He has made 247 league appearances overall, scoring 22 goals in those games.

The former record holder, Mikel Obi, had a very successful career in the Premier League. He played for Chelsea for 11 seasons and won multiple awards, including two Premier League crowns, four FA Cups, and a Champions League crown. Obi made 249 Premier League appearances in all, contributing 10 assists and one goal.
