Finidi to name Eagles assistant coaches ‘very soon’
After reports circulated regarding his negotiations with the Nigeria Football Federation regarding who works with the former international, Finidi George, the recently appointed coach of the Super Eagles, stated that he will name his assistant coaches "very soon."
Finidi was named the Eagles' permanent coach on April 29, defeating Emmanuel Amuneke, the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations winner, Michael Nsien, the US men's U-19 coach, Sylvanus Okpala, and other contenders.
Only one month remains before Finidi takes on his first task as team captain—leading the team in two pivotal 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic. Rumour has it that the NFF wants the former international to serve as custodian trainer alongside Daniel Amokachi and former captain Vincent Enyeama, but the coach supposedly prefers foreign assistants.
Finidi, 53, responded, "Very soon," when our correspondent inquired him when he would receive his assistants.
Additionally, Ademola Olajire, the NFF's spokeswoman, stated that the country's football governing body would not bow to the rumours and would instead make the announcement when it was suitable.
Upon resolution, the NFF will make an announcement. We don't respond to hearsay, Olajire said.
