FRSC confirms death of three persons in Kwara multiple accident
Three fatalities have been confirmed by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kwara Command, in an accident involving four vehicles on the Olooru/Okoolo axis of the state.
When he confirmed the accident to reporters on Tuesday in Ilorin, Mr. Stephen Dawulung, the State Sector Commander of the FRSC, stated that it happened on Monday at around 3 p.m.
According to Dawulung, those who perished in the crash were burned.
He claims that the FRSC rescue personnel in the state were dispatched right away to the crash scene upon receiving the crash report.
"To save some passengers before the fire started, we collaborated with members of the Federal Fire Service and the Nigerian Police Force."
According to initial investigations, he continued, a truck carrying feeds tried to pass another truck while travelling to Lagos and ran into an approaching trailer carrying products from a brewery.
While this was going on, a different tanker carrying petroleum products was trailing the tanker carrying brewery products and collided with it, causing more collisions.
"The presence of petroleum products caused the fire to spread after the multiple vehicle collision, burning the three involved vehicles as well as the motorbike," the speaker said.
Two of the five people involved in the crash were passengers on a motorbike, the sector commander revealed.
In addition to those who died from burns, he said that there were other crash victims who were taken to the General Hospital in Ilorin with varying degrees of injuries.
He also said that the remains of those who lost their lives had been claimed by their relatives.
According to Dawulung, the crash-related fire has been extinguished, but work to remove any obstacles in the area is still ongoing.
The corps wishes the injured a speedy recovery and offers its condolences to the families of the deceased. It also reminds all motorists to drive cautiously and without excessive speed.
"We want to use this platform to remind drivers to always keep a safe distance between themselves and other vehicles in order to create a safety bubble in case of an accident or other incident," he said.
