Gunmen Kill Babcock University Professor, Abduct Two
In the state's Iperu region, gunmen have shot and killed Yinka Olomojobi, a law professor at Babcock University, and kidnapped two others.
Olomojobi was shot and killed on Friday, reportedly because he would not allow the suspected shooters to take him away.
Two residents were abducted and taken to an unidentified location while he was being shot to death.
However, Omolola Odutola, the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, stated that one person had been taken into custody in relation to the event.
She stated, "A two-week-old security guard was taken into custody on the basis of a reasonable suspicion while police launched a covert investigation."
"The Iperu Division has reported that at approximately 9:20 p.m. on April 19, 2024, there was a kidnapping and murder incident."
"Awada Ishaya of Plateau state, who was employed two weeks ago when the event centre was launched as a security man, was arrested by the police for further interrogation due to a suspicious coincidence," Odutola stated.
After being transported to Babcock University Teaching Hospital, the lecturer was declared deceased.
"Actions are being taken to find the abductees and free the victims." We will provide further information when the situation changes.
At the Ajadeh Event Centre on Sagamu Road, in the Ogun State neighbourhood of Iperu, bullets were heard.
According to eyewitnesses, eight males in all black who were armed with firearms came out of nowhere, entered the laid-back lounge, and started shooting randomly.
Prof. Olowojobi was eventually identified as the victim who was shot in the chest for refusing to leave with the thugs. Simultaneously, the gunmen were reported to have captured Dare, the manager of a car stand, and an unidentified individual.
