WAEC: Katsina Govt wants cancellation of English language paper
On Saturday, the Katsina State Government demanded that the English language test that the West African Examination Council (WAEC) had just held be canceled.
The notification came after an issue that caused the countrywide examination to start several hours later than planned on Wednesday.
Hajiya Zainab Musa-Musawa, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, visited the WAEC office in Katsina and declared the state's stance.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the ministry's Permanent Secretary, Hajiya Ummukhair Ahmed, signed the petition that served as the basis for the stance.
NAN remembers that WAEC attributed the circumstance to increased efforts to prevent exam cheating, specifically question paper leaks.
"Until torch lights, handset lights, and security lights were introduced, students had to write the exam at night without any light," she stated.
Additionally, Musa-Musawa urged communities, parents, and schools to wait patiently for the petition's resolution.
