NiMet forecasts 3-day thunderstorms, rains from Monday Weather

From Monday through Wednesday, the entire nation is expected to experience rain and thunder, according to the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).

In the northern area, NiMet's weather outlook, which was announced on Sunday in Abuja, predicted sporadic thunderstorms over portions of Katsina, Sokoto, Kano, Zamfara, Kebbi, Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba states on Monday morning.

In isolated thunderstorms, portions of Kaduna, Borno, Gombe, Bauchi, Adamawa, Yobe, Taraba, Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kebbi States are predicted to see thunderstorms later in the day.

"Parts of Benue, Niger, the Federal Capital Territory, Kogi, and Kwara States are expected to experience sporadic rainfall in the morning hours."

Localised showers are expected in the afternoon and evening over portions of the Federal Capital Territory, the Plateau, the states of Niger, and Nasarawa.

"Parts of Ebonyi, Abia, Imo, Enugu, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Cross River States are expected to experience isolated rains in the morning hours," the statement stated.

NiMet reports that later in the day, localised rains are expected in areas of the states of Ebonyi, Abia, Imo, Enugu, Ondo, Anambara, Osun, Oyo, Akwa Ibom, Ogun, Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Edo.

The agency predicted sporadic thunderstorms to pass across areas of Taraba, Adamawa, Borno, Bauchi, and Gombe states on Tuesday morning.

A later version of the plan called for isolated thunderstorms over portions of the states of Jigawa, Bauchi, Kaduna, Gombe, Yobe, Zamfara, Borno, Sokoto, Taraba, Kebbi, and Kano.

Over portions of the states of Benue, Kogi, the Federal Capital Territory, and Nasarawa, intermittent rain is predicted during the morning hours.

"Single, isolated showers are predicted later in the day over portions of the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, states of Kwara, Benue, and Nasarawa.

In the morning, areas of the states of Edo, Ondo, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Rivers, and Bayelsa are predicted to have sporadic showers.

It stated, "In the latter part of the day, sporadic rainfall is anticipated throughout the entire Southern region."

On Wednesday, it stated that throughout the early hours, thunderstorms are predicted over portions of the states of Kebbi, Bauchi, Sokoto, Borno, and Katsina.

Parts of the states of Taraba, Adamawa, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kebbi are predicted to experience sporadic thunderstorms throughout the afternoon and evening hours.

According to the report, "morning rains are expected over parts of the Federal Capital Territory and Niger States."

Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms with rain are predicted over portions of the Plateau, the states of Nasarawa and Niger, according to NiMet.

It called for cloudy skies over the southern area in the morning and moderate showers later in the day over parts of the states of Abia, Ebonyi, Ondo, Imo, Edo, Rivers, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, and Cross River.

Because there is a good chance that large cities may see urban flooding as a result of heavy downpours, NiMet warned the populace to stay away from flood-prone locations.

"The public should take appropriate precautions as strong winds may occur prior to rain in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur."
