
NTF certifies 40 instructors and focuses on tennis development.
The Nigeria Tennis Federation hosted a week-long ITF National Level 1 Tennis Coaching Course in Abuja, which at least 40 trainers have finished.
At a concluding ceremony on Wednesday, the participants—who were selected from the nation's six geopolitical zones—were given their certificates, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.
Wednesday marked the conclusion of the coaching course, which started on April 14 at the National Tennis Centre, Package B, Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
Rotimi Akinloye, NTF Technical Director and Course Instructor, emphasized the importance of the 10-day tennis coach training program.
He clarified that as new coaches acquire cutting-edge teaching techniques and technical know-how to properly mentor players, the program offers promise for the future of tennis in Nigeria.
"Seeing how youthful and informed the players are about the game was also very encouraging, suggesting a bright future for Nigerian tennis," he said.
It is impossible to overstate the significance of the Nigeria Tennis training program, according to NTF Secretary Shammah Makpa.
According to Makpa, their goal was to improve coaching standards in Nigeria so that coaches could provide athletes better direction and support.
"The initiative can help Nigeria produce talented and competitive tennis players by providing coaches with cutting-edge teaching techniques.
"It will also significantly contribute to the development of tennis at the grassroots level, which could result in a rise in participation and achievement in regional and global tournaments," he stated.
He stated that through developmental programs, the Federation, led by President Ifedayo Akindoju, will keep striving to propel the nation to new heights in the tennis globe.
Chukwunonso Nwabueze, a participant in the coaching training curriculum, described his great experience.
He commended the programme’s enriching substance, which he stated included vital components of tennis coaching.
Participants learnt about the basics of tennis coaching, including training approaches for beginners and intermediate players.
“The training covered specific skill areas such as ball feeding, approach shots, serve and volley, providing participants with a thorough understanding of tennis techniques,” he stated.
Nwabueze who is also the PRO of Nigeria Tennis Umpires Association, revealed that he opted to join in the program for capacity building and development, to further expand his abilities and understanding of the game.
Rebecca Ekpeyong, a participant from Port Harcourt, noted that the program indicates a dedication to professional development, allowing participants to stay up-to-date with best practices in tennis coaching.
Participants in the program gained the information and abilities needed to coach tennis players successfully.
"Participants may help Nigeria produce talented and competitive tennis players by studying contemporary coaching strategies," she stated.
Speaking as well, Lagos resident Bolaji Bankole praised the NTF for hosting the workshop and pledged to apply the knowledge he had learned.
