Ramadan: Sultan, Govs, Call For Unity, Prayers For Nigeria

Governors have urged Muslims in Nigeria to pray for their nation as Ramadan begins on Monday, and they have also called for unity.

The commencement of the holy month of Ramadan 1445AH was officially confirmed on Sunday by Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar, the President of the National Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and the Sultan of Sokoto.

On Sunday, the National Moonsighting Committee Nigeria shared a post on its X handle, in which the Sultan urged Muslims nationwide to begin fasting on Monday, March 11, 2024.

As a result, Ramadan 1445 AH will officially begin on Monday, March 11, 2024. As a result, we urge Muslims all throughout the nation to start their fasts appropriately. We urge all Muslims to use the holy month of Ramadan to offer more prayers for our nation, Nigeria, and its leaders.

"We make a plea to the kind-hearted people among us to help the weak and impoverished with food and other necessities during this wonderful month in order to lessen the impact of the hardships being faced throughout the nation. Ibadat with Al-Jannah Firdaus, may Allah SWT reward us. "Happy Ramadan Kareem to all Muslims in Nigeria and around the world," he uttered.
Governors from all around the nation urged Muslims to pray for the nation's unity and peace during this period after the proclamation.

Inuwa Yahaya, the governor of Gombe State and Chairman of the Northern States Governors Forum, took the lead initially, urging unity and the federal government to provide sufficient security for people and property during the season.

In addition to pleading for relief from the current economic hardships and for peace, development, and prosperity for Gombe State and all of Nigeria, he advised the Muslim Ummah to make the most of this holy month.

The governor of Oyo State, "Seyi Makinde," has congratulated the Muslim Ummah in the region and globally on the commencement of the month of Ramadan 1445.

The governor, who described the holy month as a blessed month in which Allah rewards the worship of the Muslim Ummah, charged Muslims to increase their prayers for the country and the state.
Notwithstanding the fact that officials have been making every effort to improve the situation, Governor Makinde urged more prayers for the nation in light of the financial difficulties the populace is currently facing.

His Special Advisor on Media, Olanrewaju Sulaimon, released a statement, saying, "I charge the Muslim Ummah to, as they have always done, pray for our dear State and Nigeria, as we have all come to realise that prayer remains the greatest key for believers to make things happen."

“We do know that our country is in a bit of economic hardship, but while we continue to look up to the leaders to do the needful, we must also support our hopes with prayers to God. I also want to charge my Muslim brothers and sisters, especially those who have in abundance, to remember their neighbours and show kindness”.

Also speaking, the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has called on the Muslim faithful to foster good neighbourliness and kindness during the Ramadan season.

In a statement to mark the beginning of the Holy Month of Ramadan, the governor said the fasting period should serve as a time for soulful reflection, devotion, prayers, and care for one another.
"I beseech you to uphold the virtues of Islam by demonstrating love and compassion to everyone as the Muslim faithful begin Ramadan." Particularly in these hard times, it is the time to be a good neighbour and lend a helping hand to the less fortunate in society, he stated.

"A lot of people are currently dealing with severe financial difficulties as the Ramadan season approaches. Given how solemnly we approach this period, it is ideal to express love during this time.

"The current season demands it, and Ramadan gives us a chance to connect and show love to our friends and acquaintances."

Additionally, Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State congratulated the Muslims on their successful Ramadan fast.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara urged Muslims to pray during this time to stop the nation's growing insecurity.

I extend my congratulations to the Sultan for seeing the moon, and I implore the Muslim community as a whole to make the most of the fasting and prayer period as a chance to renew their commitment to Islam.

He continued, "I urge all Muslims to observe the fast with the utmost fear of God and to counsel wealthy people to philanthropically provide basic food items to the less fortunate during the Holy month of Ramadan."
