Stop Using My Name To Extort Nigerians, IGP Warns Officers
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has issued a strong warning denouncing all types of extortion and name-dropping for illicit activities as part of his efforts to uphold the highest levels of integrity within the Nigeria Police Force.
The IGP expressed grave worry over the act, according to a statement from the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stressing that such actions damage both his and the Police Force's reputations and undermine public confidence.
The IGP advised personnel to maintain professionalism and openness, noting that any found guilty of using his name for extortion or fraudulent operations will face harsh disciplinary penalties.
The IGP urged the public to be cautious and to report any attempt to misuse his name for fraudulent activities or extortion, most especially in the investigation of cases.
"In particular in the investigation of cases, IGP Kayode Egbetokun urged the public to exercise caution and report any attempts to exploit his name for fraudulent activities or extortion."He emphasised the vital role that the public plays in working with the police to uphold the highest standards of behaviour and eradicate corruption in the system.
Therefore, the IGP gave the public confidence that the Force would be committed to rooting out malpractice and ensuring accountability at all levels while operating under his direction.
"He urged Nigerians to report any incidents of fraud or extortion as soon as they occur, providing specific details to enable in-depth investigations that will result in harsh penalties for negligent officers," the statement continued.
