Super Falcons goalie Nnadozie wins best goalkeeper award in France
Chiamaka Nnadozie, a goalkeeper for the Nigerian national team, made history by being the first player from either Africa or Nigeria to be named the best goalkeeper in the French D1 Arkema women's league.
With her exploits in stopping penalties this season, the 23-year-old goalkeeper has solidified her place among the world's best goalkeepers.
Christiane Endler of Olympic Lyon and Katarzyna Kiedrzynek of Paris SG faced fierce battle until Nnadozie emerged victorious in the solo category.
Nnadozie's club, Paris FC, president Pierre Ferracci, remarked, "It's very pleasing because she deserves it and she achieved an exceptional Champions League and not only on penalties."
She's so cute. It is well-earned. "We intend to retain her even though we are aware that she will be pursued this summer," Pierre Ferracci continued.
This season, Nnadozie's ability to save penalties was unrivalled; as the Nigerian international saved seven penalties, it was the highest total in Europe.
Currently with 42 points, Paris FC is eighth points behind their local rivals, Paris Saint-Germain, and eleven points behind league leaders Lyon.
Nnadozie was overjoyed to get the French D1 Arkema Keeper of the Year award, and she expressed her thanks on social media platform X.
"I would want to express my sincere gratitude to all of the voters, as well as my coaches, teammates, wonderful family, and the Naija fans who have supported me so much. DID GOD DO IT?
Additionally, Nnadozie received the 2023 CAF Women's Keeper of the Year award.
