Teenager who accused cop of rape under medical examination -Police

A 17-year-old girl who accused a police officer in the state of rape has been forced to get a medical checkup, according to the Lagos State Police Command.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the Public Relations Officer for the Command, revealed this on Monday night in a late-night post on his X.com website.

The girl reportedly claimed on July 12 that she had been sexually assaulted within the Ogudu Police Station in the state's Ojota region.

She went on to say that on June 16, as she, her grandmother, and her siblings were travelling back from Ikeja, a group of "one chance" robbers stole a stolen phone, and the police had promised to assist her in recovering it.

According to reports, the suspect overheard the teenager telling her mother about her ordeal at her shop and offered to help track her missing phone and take her statement.
The victim added that the suspect had lured her into his office under the pretence of collecting her phone, but that he had instead committed the alleged deed.

Aramide Olupona, the victim's mother, revealed that her daughter started to bleed a day after the attack and was brought to the Mirabel Centre. She also mentioned that the event was reported to the police.

"The suspect's wife and the rest of his family have come to my shop to plead with me saying he would soon retire, but what about my daughter who was raped?" Olupona, however, accused the police of attempting to bury the case. Is it because I'm a woman in poverty?

In the meanwhile, the police stated in a statement on Sunday that it had begun a full-scale investigation into the rape accusation against one of its officers by the girl.
On Monday, Hundeyin provided an update on the event, stating that the girl had been forced to submit to a medical checkup in order to substantiate her allegations against the officer.

The results of the medical examination, he said, would establish the officer's guilt or innocence.

The 17-year-old girl has undergone a medical examination. We're still waiting on the outcome.

It would be challenging to get a conviction in court if the results showed nothing. If you were the accused, the process would be the same.

The PPRO said, "But if the outcome validates the accusation, then he is accountable and we would be the first to announce his name."
