Tickets for Messi’s Hong Kong friendly match sold out

After almost two million people lined up online, tickets to see Lionel Messi in a friendly against Hong Kong on Friday were sold out in less than an hour, according to the organisers.

On February 4, the legendary Argentine player and his Inter Miami team will take on a Hong Kong XI at the 40,000-seat Hong Kong Stadium.

There was an enormous queue of football fans in the finance hub of 7.5 million people when they opened the ticketing app on Friday morning. Tickets ranged in price from HK$880 to HK4,880 ($110–$625).

The chairman and CEO of Tatler Asia, which is assisting in the game's production, Michel Lamuniere, said, "We are absolutely thrilled with the response from the fans."
Some social media users posted screenshots of the app showing an error message which cited “traffic overload”.
Messi last participated in a friendly match in Hong Kong in 2014.

Former Miami co-owner David Beckham stated the MLS team was excited to play in a “beautiful city with a great sports scene.” Beckham played in Hong Kong in 2003, shortly after joining Real Madrid.

According to the organisers, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets will also be part of Miami's lineup in Hong Kong.

Players from the highest division in the Chinese territory will make up the Hong Kong XI.
