Turkey arrests 99 suspected Islamic state members

99 alleged members of the Islamic State terrorist group were reportedly apprehended in recent nationwide searches, according to a statement released by Turkey's interior minister on Friday.

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya wrote on X that the majority of the arrests were made in the west, in Ankara and Izmir, as well as in the centre, east, and south.

According to Yerlikaya, "99 suspects have been arrested in the GURZ-4 operations over the past three days."

He went on, "We will not put up with any terrorists."
Recently, Turkish police have detained a large number of suspected members of IS in large batches; the most recent roundup, which was revealed in March, involved 147 individuals.

Following those detentions, police reportedly held 2,919 persons who may have had ties to the terrorist organisation, according to Yerlikaya.

According to local authorities, two of the attackers who killed 145 people at the Crocus City Hall in Moscow last March—an attack for which IS claimed responsibility—had been in Turkey for a few weeks before to travelling to Russia.
