UNILAG student breaks 41-year old Guinness World record

Ayelabola Ololade, a final Computer Science student of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has broken the 41-year old Guinness World Record for the longest distance catwalk by a model.

In September 1983, two models from Ireland held the previous record.

Family, relatives, and well-wishers cheered her on during the UNILAG indoor sports centre event, which took place from October 1–5. They supported her till she reached the milestone.

"Mixed feelings actually it feels great to be breaking the record but you know beyond feeling seeing everybody around being inspired making some decisions saying some things really shows that it's a job well done even though we just like broke the record it's not like we've gotten any verification yet or anything like that but seeing some results already it's a good," Ololade said, expressing her feelings on reaching the milestone.

She congratulated her parents, volunteers and other stakeholders stating the milestone wouldn’t have been achieved without them.

There is nothing that God will do on it that he will not do without the assistance of mankind; even God, the Almighty, will not dispute the fact that he utilises men.
"Even God, God Almighty, acknowledges that he needs men. Without men, he could not accomplish anything. Therefore, men, from the Vice Chancellor to Professor Adebisi, to the Entrepreneurship Skill Development Centre, to my family, my uncles, my friends, my role models, to everyone I recently met, to team members, volunteers, and every individual, are what made it possible because I couldn't be on stage thinking about diesel, or walking on stage with my best friend, yes that's my PA, to every single person who travelled from Abuja, Benin, Port Harcourt, every single person that didn’t charge me a penny just to be a part of this event they all made it happen because it wouldn’t have been possible without them.
"My nurses made a significant sacrifice by travelling from Ibadan to Abuja to attend to me; I only had to do the walking."

Ololade gave other models advice, telling them to "dare to dream" and keep in mind that anything they set their minds to can be accomplished with the correct mindset.

She surpassed the 41-year old record with 2058 laps, cat-walking 130.62km to beat Roberta Brown and Lorraine McCourt who cat-walked for 114.4 km.
