‘Osimhen deal difficult for United’
Manchester United's efforts to acquire Victor Osimhen seem to be hindered by significant financial challenges. Transfer expert Ben Jacobs has indicated that securing a deal for the Nigerian international may be unfeasible for the struggling Premier League club.
The Red Devils are currently in a difficult situation this season, sitting in 14th place in the Premier League and having dismissed former manager Erik ten Hag early in the campaign.
Despite the hiring of Ruben Amorim, the team continues to encounter substantial difficulties both on and off the field.
The forward line has been particularly problematic, as neither Joshua Zirkzee nor Rasmus Hojlund has consistently provided the goals necessary to enhance the team's performance. This has heightened speculation regarding potential striker acquisitions, with Osimhen identified as a key target.
Currently on loan at Galatasaray following a tumultuous summer transfer period with Napoli, Osimhen has maintained his impressive form, scoring 22 goals in 27 appearances, which has further fueled transfer rumors.
However, Jacobs offers a realistic perspective on the potential transfer, stating to GIVEMESPORT, “It may become irrelevant whether Osimhen is interested in Manchester United if the club cannot afford the deal.”
The transfer specialist emphasized several financial obstacles hindering the potential transfer.
"At this moment, Manchester United is facing significant financial challenges," Jacobs stated. He identified several key factors, including the club's standing with Profitability and Sustainability Regulations, the possible absence of European competition next season, and diminished broadcasting revenue due to not qualifying for the Champions League.
Recent reports have proposed various possibilities for Osimhen's future, including a potential exchange involving Rasmus Hojlund. Napoli, which holds Osimhen's contract until 2026 with an option to extend it to 2027, is reportedly considering multiple avenues for the striker.
The current circumstances surrounding the Nigerian international are intricate. Following the collapse of negotiations with Chelsea and Saudi clubs last summer, Osimhen opted to extend his contract and subsequently joined Galatasaray on loan. His performances in Turkey have continued to draw interest from leading European clubs.
While Manchester United would certainly regard Osimhen as a significant acquisition, the financial realities indicate that the transfer may prove to be more difficult than initially expected.
The club may need to investigate alternative options or possibly postpone their interest until their financial situation improves.
