18 Shops Destroyed In Gas Explosion At Iju Ishaga

Tuesday night, a gas explosion at Iju Ishaga in Lagos destroyed eighteen stores.

When six 75-50(kg) petrol cylinders were inadvertently unloaded from a stationed mini truck into a petrol shop, one of the compromised head caps of a cylinder exploded, causing a fire. The incident was reported at 10:04 p.m.

Margaret Adeseye, the director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, affirmed this and added, "as the operations moved towards a conclusion, there is no traces of casualty nor injury."

Additionally, she disclosed that the fire has been contained to the tanker and the nearby row of shops, with coordinated efforts being made to prevent additional spread to protect the environment and property including the nearby Kerosene Petroleum Filling Station.

Adeseye also said that normalcy had returned to the area but advised Lagosians to refrain from housing inflammable materials in residential areas
