BREAKING: Governor declares 24-hour curfew in Plateau LG
With immediate effect, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has imposed a 24-hour curfew on the state's Mangu Local Government Area.
Gyang Bere, the governor's director of press and public affairs, verified the development in a statement released on Tuesday.
He claimed that the area's deteriorating security conditions led to the decision.
The passage in the statement said, "Governor Mutfwang made the decision following discussions with the pertinent security agencies.
"Until further notice, he said, only those on essential duties are permitted to relocate within the local government area.
"He called on all citizens, particularly those who live in the Mangu Local Government Area, to abide by the order and support the security forces by offering trustworthy information in order to bring peace and order back to the area.
"He bemoaned the fact that, in spite of government efforts to put an end to terrorist elements' activities, some people are still determined to instill a sense of insecurity in the state.
He conveyed his condolences to the surviving family members of the deceased and injured, assuring them that the government will not back down in its efforts to establish enduring peace within the state.
"He said we would review the curfew as soon as the security situation improves."
