BREAKING: Gunmen kill 30 in fresh Plateau attack

In the early hours of Wednesday, gunmen attacked Kwahaslalek village in the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing no fewer than thirty people.

According to reports, the victims—the majority of whom were women and children—had fled to the home of a local community leader on Tuesday night in search of safety after earlier unrest in Mangu town during the day. That's when the gunmen surrounded them and killed them all.

On Wednesday, Mark Haruna, a prominent member of the community, verified the death toll.

According to Haruna, the events that transpired in Sabon Gari and Mangu town yesterday afternoon (Tuesday) were merely a diversion to divert people's focus from the villages.
"Last night, on Tuesday, gunmen attacked my village, Kwahaslalek, which is located behind the NYSC camp, for the second time. Around 1:30 am, they arrived and murdered over 25 people, the most of whom were women and children.

Joseph Gwankat, the chairman of the Mwaghavul Development Association, confirmed the killing and called it callous.

"What transpired in Mangu town during the day yesterday kept me up last night." I recently learned that Kwahaslalek village was attacked last night, with approximately thirty people lost their lives.

According to what I've been told, many communities were alarmed by yesterday's disturbances in Mangu Town. A few villagers left to evacuate their loved ones and gathered them in what they believed to be a secure location.

Thus, in the night, the killers went to Kwahaslalek village where the people mostly women and children were assembled and killed all of them,” he said.
In addition, the chairman denounced the killing and said, "I was informed that there was no security on the ground to save the villagers." This is the height of evil. How come the residents of their villages are the victims of ongoing assaults and homicides with no action taken to apprehend the offenders?

When contacted, Alabo Alfred, the state police command's spokesperson, stated he had not yet received the incident report.

"On that, I have not heard of any reports. Give me a moment to call my Commander. If that is indeed what happened, we will look into the incident," the PPRO stated.

Caleb Mutfwang, the governor of Plateau State, imposed a 24-hour curfew on the Mangu Local Government Area on Tuesday. (yesterday).

According to him, the decision was made in response to the worsening security conditions in the area after an unrest left several houses, including churches and mosques, burnt down.
After three local government areas in the state were attacked on Christmas Eve, the state has not fully recovered.

The state's Barkin Ladi, Mangu, and Bokkos regions were besieged by gunmen who set fire to homes and shot locals in the villages of Ndun, Ngyong, Murfet, Makundary, Tamiso, Chiang, Tahore, Gawarba, Dares, Meyenga, Darwat, and Butura Kampani.

The attack is said to have claimed the lives of over 150 people.
