BREAKING: Immigration Service repatriates Zimbabwean Bishop

Due to a breach of Nigerian immigration law and procedure, the Nigeria Immigration Service detained and returned a Bishop from Zimbabwe.

According to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, gave his approval for the Bishop's return home.

Bishop Ebenen K. Nhiwatawi, a Zimbabwean bishop, was detained in Yola, Adamawa state, on August 24 due to a breach of immigration regulations, according to a statement released by the NIS and signed by Kenneth Udo, its public relations officer.

According to Udo, the Bishop entered the nation on August 21, 2024, using a Tourist Visa (F5A) intended only for travel. He was, however, found to be taking part in the Methodist Church's leadership election process, which is obviously against the conditions and benefits connected to the Tourist Visa as provided in the Nigeria Visa Policy 2024.
Under the circumstances outlined above, the Nigeria Immigration Service Comptroller General has issued an order for his prompt return to his home country, endorsed by the Minister.

As important drivers of economic growth and development, the Service supports legitimate foreign direct investment as well as people who engage in social and commercial endeavours; however, it will not stand for any breach of the nation's immigration regulations.

For this reason, the Service will keep an eye on foreigners' activities as part of its ongoing commitment to protecting the nation's national security.
