BREAKING: Kylian Mbappé cleared in Swedish rape investigation

The investigation into rape claims against French football player Kylian Mbappé has been ended, the Swedish Prosecution Authority said today, because there is not enough evidence to move on.

Several reports from Thursday morning state as much.

The football player's career was clouded by the accusations, which attracted attention from all around the world.

Mbappé has not yet released an official statement on the decision, despite his repeated denials of the accusations.
Prior to this, his legal team had highlighted his dedication to due procedure.

According to his attorney, Marie-Alix Canu-Bernard, Mbappé was "linked to a rape investigation in Sweden," according to a story quoting AFP on October 17, 2024. He also stated that he planned to save any explanations for the Swedish legal system "if necessary."

While vehemently denouncing "media allegations suggesting that Kylian Mbappé had commented on the events of his trip to Stockholm," Canu-Bernard told AFP that "he prioritises providing his explanations, if required, to the Swedish judiciary."

The claims in the case, which started earlier this year, were related to a purported event that happened in Stockholm. Months of investigation and conjecture have come to an end with the prosecutor's decision not to file charges.

More on that later.
