NiMet Forecasts Three-Day Mix of Sunshine and Rain Across Nigeria
From Monday through Wednesday, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency predicts a combination of sunny, overcast, and wet weather conditions nationwide.
NiMet forecasted sunny skies with cloud patches over the northern region in the morning hours in its weather outlook, which was made public in Abuja on Sunday.
Parts of Taraba, Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, Adamawa, Kebbi, and Kaduna States are predicted to see isolated thunderstorms with moderate rainfall by the afternoon and evening, according to NiMet.
The outlook partially stated, "Sunny skies with modest cloud cover are anticipated in the morning for the central region."
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Plateau, Benue, Kwara, Nasarawa, and Niger States are all expected to see isolated thunderstorms and moderate rainfall later in the day.
The southern area is predicted to see cloudy skies, and Akwa Ibom is likely to get morning rainfall.
In portions of Imo, Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra, Abia, Edo, Ondo, Ogun, Oyo, Delta, Ekiti, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States, thunderstorms and mild to moderate rain are expected to follow.
The agency said sections of Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Katsina, Kano, and Jigawa are anticipated to get thunderstorms with light rain on Tuesday. Other regions of the North will see bright weather with cloud patches in the morning.
According to the statement, "Moderate rain is anticipated for Adamawa, Taraba, Borno, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kano, Kaduna, and Bauchi States later in the day."
“In the central region, morning thunderstorms with light rains are expected in the FCT, Benue, Niger, Kwara, Plateau, and Kogi, with afternoon or evening thunderstorms and moderate rains in the same states.
“Southern regions will see cloudy skies in the morning, with thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rain in the afternoon or evening, especially in Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Edo States.
“By Wednesday, thunderstorms with light rain are expected in Kebbi, Zamfara, and Sokoto States in the morning, while the rest of the North will experience sunny weather with cloud patches.”
Later in the day, moderate rains were predicted for Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, Taraba, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kano, and Kaduna, according to the agency.
The central region is expected to experience bright skies with periods of sunshine in the morning, followed by thunderstorms with moderate to heavy rainfall.
"It is anticipated that the southern region will experience gloomy conditions in the morning, followed by thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in the afternoon and evening."
Because thunderstorms may be preceded by strong winds, NiMet urged the public to exercise care.
It stated that in order to prevent harm, loose items should be fastened.
Additionally, the agency advised people to stay away from large trees because of the possibility of falling branches, disconnect electrical devices during storms, and refrain from driving during periods of severe rain.
For efficient flight planning, airline operators need to get weather reports tailored to each airport from NiMet.
The forecast stated that residents should monitor updates on NiMet's official website, www.nimet.gov.ng, to stay updated.
