BREAKING: Wales FA sack Rob Page after Euro 2024 qualifying miss

Rob Page's employment as head coach of the men's national team has been terminated, according to a statement from the Football Association of Wales.

After taking over as interim manager in November 2020 and being appointed permanently in September 2022, Page guided the team to several notable achievements, such as Cymru's first FIFA World Cup appearance since 1958 and the team's participation in the UEFA EURO 2020 finals.

Dave Adams, the Chief Football Officer, commended Page for his accomplishments, which included bringing 18 pathway players into the senior squad and getting promoted to League A in the UEFA Nations League.

The FAW's president, Steve Williams, and CEO, Noel Mooney, expressed their appreciation for Page's commitment and his part in making Welsh football history.

The FAW is currently anticipating upcoming opportunities and remains committed to its value of ‘Excellence’ for Welsh football.
This was revealed on Friday by the Football Association of Wales in a statement that was taken from its website and X.

It stated, "Page was the U21 Head Coach since 2017 and oversaw the development of several players into the senior team environment, including Dan James, Harry Wilson, and Joe Rodon among many others, prior to taking on the role of Men's National Team Manager."

"I would like to thank Rob for his work with the Association over the last seven years," Adams said, "first as the Head Coach of the U21s and then as the Head Coach of Cymru."Rob's efforts have resulted in qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and advancement to the Round of 16 at EURO 2020. During his tenure, we also integrated 18 pathways players into the senior squad.
"Going forward, this experience will help us achieve our goal of regularly qualifying our Men's National Team for major tournaments."

However, Mooney stated, "Rob has my sincere gratitude for his commitment and dedication to his roles for the National Teams on behalf of myself and the entire FAW."

"Our Cymru men's team has accomplished important milestones and victories under Rob Page's leadership, most notably our first World Cup in sixty-four years, which have created many incredible memories for our nation."

"We continue to be committed to our FAW value of 'Excellence,' and we are excited about the future holds for Welsh football and our national teams."

"I want to put on record my gratitude for taking Cymru to EURO 2020 and the FIFA World Cup. I am incredibly grateful for everything that Rob has done in his role as Cymru Men's National Team Manager," said FAW President Steve Williams.

"Rob's love for the nation was evident when he visited towns, clubs, and schools all throughout Wales. I am aware that Rob took great pride in bringing the World Cup squad announcement to Tylorstown, his hometown.

The announcement follows the Dragons' March failure to earn a spot in the current Euros 2024.
