CAF convenes 46th ordinary general assembly
On Monday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the Executive Committee of the Confédération Africaine de Football will meet.
Starting at 10:30 local time (07:30 GMT), the meeting, presided over by CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, aims to prepare for the 46th CAF Ordinary General Assembly, which is slated to take place on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.
Several press releases from the CAF website on Monday state this.
Exco conference
In a recent statement, Motsepe said, "We are delighted to be in Addis Ababa to discuss the future of our sport. This is a critical time for African football."
"Tomorrow's General Assembly will feature important decisions that will shape the next phase of African football, and the agenda will be set by the EXCO meeting."
Beginning with the Executive Committee meeting, Addis Ababa will be bustling this week as the Ethiopian city gets ready to welcome representatives from the CAF's member associations, zonal unions, and notable football players from all over the continent.
The General Assembly, an annual meeting of African football's highest decision-makers, will be the culmination of the series of events.
Ethiopia's function
Ethiopia is hosting the CAF General Assembly this year for the second time, after the inaugural event was a great success in 2017.
The renowned gathering will take place in the Ethiopian Skylight Hotel, according to a statement released on Saturday with the headline "Ethiopia Ready to Host 46th CAF Ordinary General Assembly."
"We are honoured to be the assembly's host once more. An Ethiopian football official stated, "We are ready to showcase the best of what we have to offer. Ethiopia has a long and cherished history with African football."
Zone gatherings
The CAF President has been attending the zonal union sessions, which started yesterday, in advance of the General Assembly.
To ensure that everyone are actively participating in the pre-congress deliberations, the six zonal unions—WAFU A, WAFU B, COSAFA, UNIFFAC, UNAF, and CECAFA—are holding strategic discussions on the condition of football within their respective regions.
"Zonal meetings are crucial for comprehending the unique requirements of every area. These discussions enable us to discuss in-depth the chances and difficulties that African football encounters on various levels, according to Motsepe.
Today's (Monday) CECAFA conference is very important since Ethiopia is a major player in this regional organisation. Every other one was held on Sunday, and the results are still being withheld.
Match for charities
Apart from the crucial discussions, this week will also showcase a lighter side of football, as a friendly game is slated to take place at Addis Ababa Stadium later today.
Famous African football players will be playing in the match, which will feature CAF and FIFA officials in addition to a spirit of camaraderie to add to the typically formal procedures.
According to an Ethiopian Football Federation official, "This match is not just a game; it's a celebration of African unity and our shared love for football."
Addis Ababa's thriving sports scene and rich cultural legacy are on full show as the city gets ready for a surge of tourists.
As important talks over the direction of African football approach, the scene is being prepared for what seems to be a historic occasion in Addis Ababa.
